Laterna Magica

The Laterna Magica - or magic lantern - is the ancestor of today's slide projector. Described for the first time in 1671 by the jesuit priest Athanase Kircher in his essay "Ars magnae lucis et umbrae“, it was mainly used by magicians and entertainers to frighten the public by projecting images of monsters on a blank sheet.
